Pleasant Hill Quilters

Venue:

Rosine Hall

The Pleasant Hill Quilters delight with an oral American history like you’ve never seen or heard. The quilters weave together the Black traditions of quilting and spiritual hymns associated with slaves fleeing to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Displaying completed quilts, the women explain how runaway slaves and their supporters used quilt patterns to communicate messages along the network of routes, sympathizers and safe havens that helped fugitives escape to freedom in the days before abolition.
