Early Morning Photo Stroll

Chair: Marc Barta

Students! Rise and shine if you want to learn to photograph nature during the best time of the day! You will be given the exceptionally rare experience of having the gardens to yourselves (starting at 6 a.m. - with donuts) as you take your cameras (any type – your choice) into the early morning magic – the ultimate time to photograph nature. Mentors will be with you to give you fine tricks of the art of photography during the Photo Stroll. Your work will be included in the Exhibition in Rosine Hall on September 14, from 3-5 p.m. The Photo Stroll will be an experience you will never forget. Open to and free for students grades 6-12. Middle school parents may sign up on the Enrollment Form to chaperone (limited number) or they may relax over a cup of coffee in our “Parent Lounge” for the morning.

As a special treat, internationally celebrated nature photographer David Gibson, whose work is exhibited in museums and galleries in Europe, Asia and the United States and is a favorite of collectors, will invite the top four winners for a conversation about photography in his studio. He has also consented for us to have a limited exhibition of his work at the Arboretum in celebration of the student exhibit.

Reservations available soon

If you would like to be personally notified of the date for this rare time to photograph the gardens without strolling guests, email Torie Parsons tparsons@dallasarboretum.org.

Highlighting the Incredible Edible Garden gallery in the Children’s Garden, kid chefs can pick at least one ingredient from there and create their dish (snack, dessert, salad, entrée, etc) for Star Chefs Kent Rathbun of Abacus, Scott Gottlich of Bijoux and Lynae Fearing of Shinsei, and then the kids will judge the chefs’ snacks prepared to treat the children and adults in the audience. With all that cooking going on, the Arboretum named Cecile Bonte the Honorary Chair of the event – not just because she led the effort in raising the millions to build the Children’s Garden, but because she is an extraordinary cook. Plan to come honor Cecile, be treated by the celebrity chefs, and support those kid chefs.
