Creative Arts Programs
Our Creative Arts programs at the Arboretum give you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a number of fun and inspired classes. Using the garden for inspiration, these classes will let you expand your photography skills, bring out your imaginative side by building a birdbath or learn to watercolor in the great outdoors. Try one of these classes and you are sure to join us for more!
How to Register
The quickest way to reserve your space in class is to select the "add to cart" option on each program below. If you prefer to pay by check or cash, you may fill out and submit your registration request online. Please print a copy of the registration and mail to the address on the form. If space is available, we will confirm your reservation upon receipt of payment. Adult Education Registration form for Check payment.
Give the Gift of Learning
Want to share the excitement of Arboretum classes with a friend? Give them a certificate for a specific class or for an amount good towards a class of their choice. These are great for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, or just because. Call 214.515.6539 to purchase one today.
Cancellations, subject to a $10 processing fee, can be made up to five (5) business days prior to the class. Refunds cannot be issued for missed classes or cancellations made less than five business days prior to class and must be sent in writing to email@example.com.
The Dallas Arboretum is a non-profit organization that is supported, in part, by funds from the Dallas Park & Recreation Department.
Mixed Media Inspirations from the Garden

What inspires you? A beautiful Garden? Dreams of the future? Poetry? An exotic Vacation? Join Kay Goodman, with Art & Spirit, for a fun, relaxed and educational mixed-media workshop where you will draw inspiration on a walk through the fall garden and then dive into art techniques that will illustrate your dreams and goals. In the first session, you will explore using gesso, acrylic paints, Caran d’Arche Watercolor crayons, gel mediums and more. In the second session, you will launch your holiday spirit with art & Zen doodling skills and explore the world of Copic Markers while holiday tunes dance in your head. Use your new skills for greeting cards, framed art, gifts or art journaling. The classes are designed to build on each other, but can be taken independently. All supplies provided, however feel free to start collecting images, quotes and text that inspire you and bring them to class to add to your creations.??
Carolina Snowflake- Woven Reed Ornament

This lovely handmade treasure is one that you will want to display all year long. Using carefully selected reeds, Anna Barry, artist and owner of the White Rock Weaving Center, will help you construct a lovely handmade treasure that you will want to display all year long. This fun and easy to learn project will inspire you to start making your gifts for the holidays again. These treasures will have everyone clamoring to be on your holiday list. Please bring an old bath towel. All other supplies provided.

Felted Hobo Scarf

This lovely and unique handmade scarf is sure to be a showstopper during the holidays. Suzanne Morgan, fiber artist and teacher will show you how to felt an open and lacy scarf from silk and wool. Using fine micron merino wool, bits of silk and yarns, Suzanne will help you create a beautiful lightweight scarf that you will enjoy wearing or giving as a gift. We will be using a finishing sander to felt, so please wear rubber soled shoes. Please bring two old towels and sharp fabric scissors. Creative Arts Center of Dallas instructor
3-D Felted Animals

Learn to sculpt with wool. In this fun workshop, Suzanne Morgan, fiber artist and teacher, will show you how to create a small whimsical felted pod with some interesting finishes (Think Dr. Seuss characters in felt.). You will learn to make wool prefelts and also learn some basic needle felting skills. Come with a sense of play and go home with an adorable new character straight from your own imagination.
