Interested in volunteering at our camp?
Summer Camp Volunteer Assistants wanted, June 7 – Aug 13
What will I be doing?
Summer camp assistants are high school students (15 – 17 years old) who assist the summer camp director and staff in making this a fun and exciting experience for our campers. You will be working with our teachers, engaging 4 – 12 year old campers in activities that include crafts, story telling, games, snacks, outdoor walks and more.
What is required of me?
Summer camp assistants are students who are comfortable with and enjoy working with young children. They like being outdoors and learning about nature. As summer camp assistants they are fun to be with, caring, responsible, enthusiastic and ready to learn new leadership skills.
Will you train me?
Summer camp assistants attend one 2 hour training session (TBA). Training covers all areas of working with children at camp – assisting with activities, leading activities, working with young children and successful communication skills.
What will I get out of this experience?
This is a volunteer experience where you can gain some valuable experience working with young children. The skills you acquire through volunteering at the Dallas Arboretum Summer Camps will help you apply for future jobs and provide additional experience for your college applications. These hours may also be used towards fulfilling your school’s community service hours.
When will I be expected to work?
The Arboretum’s summer camps consist of 9 one-week sessions, June 7 – August 13. (There is no camp the week of July 5th.) Camps are held Mon – Fri. Summer camp assistants must commit to working either full (8:45am – 3: 15 pm) or half days (Morning: 8:45am – 12:15pm Afternoon: 12:45pm-3:15pm) for a minimum of two camp sessions.
