 Autumn at the Arboretum: The Great Pumpkin Festival Opening September 20, 2008 at the Dallas Arboretum

Fall into fun at the Dallas Arboretum’s annual fall festival, Autumn at the Arboretum: The Great  Pumpkin Festival, proudly presented by Comerica Bank, starting September 20 running through November 2. The garden will be planted with over 20,000 colorful fall chrysanthemums amid other fall-blooming flowers including salvia, coleus, and ornamental grasses. Back by popular demand, the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch, filled with over 20 thousand decorative pumpkins and gourds, will return to the Pecan Grove as well as the festive 15’ pumpkin house constructed out of the finest pumpkins in the patch.   Families can once again expect exciting family-friendly activities for all ages throughout the festival.

Opening weekend, come along and enjoy the always popular Artscape event, which is Dallas Arboretum’s fine art fair and sale in the garden, on September 20 – 21 only.  It is a juried art show featuring the work of more than 80 artists from around the country, set amid one of the most beautiful floral display gardens in North America.  All of the artist’s work will focus on nature or are made from natural products.  Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about various types of art from hands-on art demonstrations that will be presented throughout the garden.  In conjunction with Artscape, guests can enjoy wine tasting on September  20 & 21 at noon, 2pm, and 4pm. 

Also kicking off the festival is the annual Tour Des Fleurs 10K/20K, sponsored by Lennox International, and the Toyota 10K Rival Run both on September 20. Registered runners will celebrate their finish on the Dallas Arboretum’s Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn with live entertainment, incredible food and drinks, and exciting awards.   • Selection of Fall Foods
  • October 25-26 enjoy a special family fun Halloween filled with activities such as carnival games and arts and crafts.
  • Horse Drawn Carriage Rides ($3)
  • Photo opportunities which include: Pumpkin topiary, the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch filled with over 20,000 pumpkins, and the pumpkin house.  It is definitely a sight to see!

MOMMY & ME MONDAYS AND TINY TOTS TUESDAYS in the Pecan Grove 10am - 2pm

Kimberly Clark's "Mommy & Me Mondays" and the Children's Medical Center's "Tiny Tots Tuesdays" will return Mondays and Tuesdays (September 20-November 22) from 10am to 2pm; photography by James French will be available as well.

COOL THURSDAYS ENCORE CONCERT SERIES –  September 18 to October 30

On September 18, the Cool Thursdays Encore Concert Series heats up the Martin Rutchik Concert Stage with an encore of popular bands and performers from the local area.  New to the Cool Thursday’s line-up is the signature series performances of nationally renowned bands, including The Temptations Revue who will perform on October 16.  Cool Thursdays Encore will take place Thursday evenings from September 18 to October 30.
